studio time, light painting

So our next assignment is in the studio, we spent the day playing with product lighting, which was heaps of fun. Thinking of different ideas and styles to try was very interesting. I ended trying some painting with light which gives a really unique look heres some of the best shotsImageImageImageImage

Experimental photography. camera obscura

For our 3rd assignment we have been looking at experimental photographic techniques. we covered pinhole photography, cyanotypes, photograms, iphoneography and lomography. once we had a go at each of these we then picked one to explore further. During my research i  was fascinated with the camera obscura so decided to experiment with them.

Camera obscuras are magical things, the pineapples they work on is found in every camera form iphone cameras to large format cameras. (they are even the reason we call cameras cameras) This importance with the process made me even more interested and lead me to turn my room in to a camera obscure.

This is a very easy process, the latin translation of camera obscura is darkened room and that is all it its. black out the windows leaving a small hole about the size of a 10p. you’ll notice a image projected on to the rear wall this is exactly what happens in a camera.

As part of my project i experimented with ways of capturing this image first trying a cyanotype but after 3 days and no noticeable image appearing i gave up, I then tried photographic paper but the image was fairly distorted although i could have explored the photographic paper by this time i had noticed the movement in the projection and wanted to capture this in a time lapse.

The time-lapse came out fairly well i repeated it again when i went back to the lakes for xmas. if i get the change i would like to try this will a busier view out of the window and look at using lenses to enhance the image quality.
